Effect of scarification on germination and emergence of macadamia nuts under the conditions of Cubiro, Lara State
Abstract
The macadamia nut (Macadamia integrifolia Maiden & Betche) is native to Australia. Currently, the world's leading producer is Hawaii, and it is also cultivated in countries such as Indonesia, South Africa, Costa Rica, the Ivory Coast, and Guatemala, among others. In Venezuela, it has been produced on a small scale in the states of Lara and Trujillo for 25 years. One of the main problems facing this crop in its propagation is its slow and uneven germination, which can take from 40 days to eight months after planting.
