Basic aspects for the conservation of quality seeds
Abstract
Quality seed is one of the implicit and non-substitutable factors in the production chain of any agricultural crop. The seed is considered the most important input in the agricultural production network of a crop that multiplies, both through sexual and asexual seed, therefore, its production and conservation must comply with a series of technical standards and procedures that guarantee its quality and presence in the fields of our farmers.
Each crop has peculiarities of seed production, processing and storage technologies, therefore, it is important to know some basic factors of post-harvest handling during its conditioning and of some official quality control procedures, required by the Venezuelan State for the commercialization of seeds in the country. Knowledge of these technologies favors the supply of high quality seed and contributes to the strengthening of our agri-food security and sovereignty (Organic Law of Food Security and Sovereignty, 2008).
