Basic aspects of systems and formulation of a seed production plan

Abstract

Seed production in Venezuela is oriented towards formal certification systems controlled by the State or artisanal systems subject to regional and local needs of communities or individual farmers, with the presence or absence of institutions that support their work. In both systems, the planning of seed production must be carried out in a coordinated and responsible way, taking into account interdisciplinary human resources, selection of crops with adapted and competitive cultivars, accessible production units, timely input of inputs, supply of irrigation and infrastructure adapted to the requirements of pre and post harvest management, in order to produce high quality seed that guarantees its ancestral, genetic, physical, physiological, and sanitary benefits in sufficient quantity; that supports and participates in national, regional and local agricultural programs for neighboring communities and families, generating the security of this input in quality and quantity for next planting cycles, in favor of promoting national supply, sustainability, sovereignty and food security.
