Characterization of Creole chickens from Bolívar state - Venezuela Years 2015-2016
Abstract
The contribution to the national production, by the Bolivar state, of protein from bird breeds imported in 2015 was 4% in meat and 0.3% in eggs, (MPPAPT, 2016); which indicates the need to open up to the use of local genetics.
The study of the Creole hen, acquires scientific importance due to the social, economic and conservation interest of animal genetic resources, which allows facing problems, such as the substitution of local poultry genotypes by commercial bird lines, which are not adapted to the environment and the environment. traditional management and therefore have a lower capacity to resist certain diseases, such as Newcastle (Cherdchai, cited by Villacís 2014).
In this sense, the present exploratory work was carried out in October 2015, in Bolívar state, during a tour of the municipalities: Cedeño, Sucre, Heres, Caroní, Piar and Gran Sabana, with the purpose of identifying and characterizing local chickens, in order to obtain information on the productive benefits, phenotypic and genetic characteristics for future works of conservation of subspecies of Gallus domesticus L. and of genetic improvement in order to achieve animals adapted to the conditions of management, climate and commercial benefit for rural communities of the Bolivar state.
