Accompaniment in the production of black bean seed to cooperating farmers of the National Seed Plan in the state of Lara
Abstract
Within the areas of exploitation of the bean crop, Phaseolus vulgaris L., in Venezuela, are the highlands of the state of Lara, mainly made up of the Andrés Eloy Blanco municipalities (Sanare, La Cañada, Monte Carmelo and Las Lajitas), Iribarren (Buena Vista, El Palenque, Mata Redonda, La Sabana, El Chupadero and Nonavana), Jiménez (Cubiro, Las Cuibas, Piedra de Ojo, Los Patos and El Zancudo) and Morán (Guarico, El Limoncito, El Potrero, Los Cogollos , Quebradita and Estancia), with altitudes ranging from 800 to more than 1,800 meters above sea level, where beans are traditionally planted as the main rotation crop, in addition to potatoes and some vegetables; and less frequent in the lower areas of the municipalities Urdaneta (Moroturo and La Pastora), Simón Planas (San Nicolás, El Caribe, Torrellero, Las Matas and Sabana Alta), whose main activity is sheep and goat farming.
