Pineapple cultivation: application of good agricultural practices
Abstract
Pineapple, Ananas comosus L. Merr, is a crop in great demand both nationally and internationally. It is the most appreciated tropical fruit in European countries and ranks third among the most commercialized. Its production takes place mainly in tropical regions where climatic conditions are favorable. In Venezuela, production has increased in recent years with a notable increase since 1993 when 133,000 tons were produced and by 2010 production increased to 380,179 tons, located in two very well defined areas with their own characteristics, the Central Western zone. specifically in the state of Lara and the Andean zone, mainly in the state of Trujillo, these two states representing 82% of national production (UEMPPAT, 2010).
