Stevia cultivation: nursery propagation and agronomic management
Abstract
The stevia plant, Stevia rebaudiana bertoni, has been used for centuries by the Guaraní tribes of Paraguay and Brazil, as a sweetener to counteract the bitter taste of medicines based on different plants, since its leaves contain natural sweetening substances, called steviosides and rebaudioside. Steviosides in their pure form are 200 to 300 times sweeter than sucrose. (Duran A. 2012).
