Deep litter, an ecological and economical alternative for raising pigs

Abstract

Press-INIA (Yaracuy). The production of pigs in deep litter is a relatively new system in Venezuela, which consists of the raising of these animals in second-use infrastructures, such as poultry sheds, warehouses, stables or new low-cost pavilions, these spaces lack concrete, an element that makes the practice of this economic activity more expensive.

The system is shown as an economical and ecological alternative, since it replaces the hard floor with a bed that can be made with easily accessible products such as wheat straw, oat straw, corn strain, coffee husks, sand or paper. shredded newspaper on dirt floor.
