Evaluation of two types of substrates on the growth and development of Dumbar hybrid apple tomato under cover
Abstract
Substrates represent an alternative technological reference, which provides physical support to the seedlings, as well as providing air, water and nutrients for the proper functioning of the roots (Pire and Pereira, 2003). The quality of the seedlings obtained will depend on the type of substrate to be used and its physicochemical characteristics, since the development and functioning of the roots are determined by the aeration conditions and water content; in addition to the influence that these factors have on the supply of the necessary nutrients (García et al. (2001). It should be noted that the use of peat has mainly been the only substrate used for the production of tomato seedlings in Venezuela, not There are currently substitutes of proven quality in the national market that compete with it in volume and quality.
