Evaluation of soybean materials from Brazil
Abstract
Soybean, Glycine max (L.) Merrill, is currently one of the oldest cultivated species in the world, along with wheat, rice, rye and sorghum. Its center of origin is located in China, where its evolution occurred through natural hybridization between two wild soybean species, which were domesticated and improved by local farmers and researchers. However, large-scale commercial production began in the mid-twentieth century in the United States, where it arrived from Europe. Later, in the 1960s, other countries such as Argentina and Brazil were incorporated.
