Abstract

The cultivation of vegetables in Venezuela had historically been in the hands of a very small sector of farmers, whose production logic was to satisfy the needs of the market and the accumulation of capital through the intensive use of land and agricultural inputs. Vegetables as a safe source of vitamins and minerals represent strategic foods in the Venezuelan diet, however, their supply has been reduced due to the growing demand of the population, which has caused a sustained increase in prices, causing an inflationary spiral that directly impacts the savings of lower-income families.
