Abstract

The correct identification of the species is fundamental for any investigation. In this sense, the present work seeks to correct a situation of homonymy in the genus Coptera, an important parasitoid of flies pests of fruit crops. In the year 2006 Rajmohana described Coptera carinata of the Afrotropical region, for the year 2008 Montilla and Garcia described a species of Coptera of Neotropical region, that was included in the “artificial group of species paradoxa”, with identical name to the one used by Rajmohana. In this way, the name of Coptera carinataMontilla and García, 2008, must be changed to avoid homonymy, hence the name of Coptera barinensis nom. nov.Montilla and García, 2008. Additionally, in this publication the male of Coptera barinensis nom. nov. It is described and illustrated.
