Abstract

In the state of Anzoategui, variability in the rainfall records has led to changes in the activity of rainfed farming, causing alterations in yields of major crops of the area. To analyze space -  temporary variation of rainfall in Anzoategui state, between the years 1970 to 2000, rainfall records of 64 stations of the area of influence of the state were used. Data were subjected to exploratory and geostatistical analysis methods, to understand the distribution of the series and make maps of spatial variation of the rainfall in the decades of 1970 - 1980, 1980 - 1990 and 1990 - 2000. Results indicated that the state of Anzoátegui had annual rainfall that will increase toward the southern region of the state, a temporal variation was observed in the records of precipitation over the three decades, reflected in a decreasing of annual rainfall (100 - 350 mm) in more than 60% of the area (southwest of the state) and an increase in more than 35% of the state (northeast). Likewise, changes were observed in the inter-annual seasonal, in the 70s and 80s, there was a greater distribution of rainfall in the rainy season (May - October), while that in the decade of 90s, the rainfall is concentrated between the months of June – September.
